From One Star to Another

I had played the game most of my life
But one play stands out
All throughout
All the games
And all the moments
There is this one
Where I played a key role in how the game was won
Hard to describe that exact feeling
It was just an instant
Whatever it was it has persistence
Cause I have never forgot
That play
That day
Or how I was left with nothing to say
When that pass did come my way
Time stood still
And what I saw
Later in life I was supposedly ill
The movement of time and space revealed
The ball I would steal
As it landed softly in my hands
Rowdy cheering from the stands
We were going to win we all understand
The fans
The team
From inside I did beam
It was unbelievable
At least it all did seem
I was not sure who to tell
I emailed and wished you well
When I got a response
From one star to another
The subject
You had scored the winning kick
Loosing streak over
And I kept our streak on track
Still no blemishes on our season
No season loss stats
Your still a star in my eyes
Even though we’ve both kissed our playing days goodbye
When I look up I see you in the night sky
You should know why
Cause that is what you are
I still hope
Although I should not
That you would send me a message about us being connected
Even though the second half
I wanted to pass
Cause it was not about me
Or you
But it was about somebody
And although I was and might still be your star
I will probably never again give you a ride in my car
Or get a cranberry vodka with you at the bar
For one instant of time

We were connected through the Divine
And can remember the same day for different reasons
Both lovers of the fall sports season
Football for me
Futbol for you
Through you my dreams came true
Why I never doubt
