It’s that time of day
When the sun says it’s time to go away
Moves closer to the horizon
Glows orange
Happens everyday
No surprising
But here
When sundown draws near
Things change
The lake’s colors start to range
It shimmers first
And reflects the sun
But the suns time up is almost done
The lake turns to deep blue
Then a steely grey
Happens like this everyday
The students and professors tarry
With books and bags they do carry
Our gaze is set to the west
The picture never gets old
I guess this place is the best
On south and east hill alike
Lovers lay in the grass and unite
In the last moments of today’s sunlight
How easy it is to feel delight
How nice it is to welcome the night
For then lovers love can take flight
One day I’ll be one
At least I might
I’ve seen plenty of sundowns in I-town
And a lot in D-town
Same sun
And same planet going round
But one is painted with a watercolor brush
The other more of a digital touch
Here the sun illuminates the lake
There silhouettes the mountains in the thin air
Either way cannot help but stare
Feel free from care
Easily know this whole world we do share
And our sun
That too is for all of us
Even though it’s 93 million miles away
It still starts and ends everyday
So tonight
As the sun says goodnight
Keep watching the sky
Because shortly
The suns brothers and sisters will come out to say hi
