Grassroots

It’s that time of year
Our favorite festival is near
Just up the road from here
I see tickets for sale everywhere
See you at Grassroots
I hear it in the air
Ads on the radio
Every station
Country
And adult easy listening
But Grassroots is like a hippie thing
Right?
I thought that too
Then I went
I saw you
All my old friends
Students and youngsters
Old and young
Never heard the songs that got sung
But at the Roots
I feel we are one
There was this one time
My friends little brother gave me a ride
And I was sure when we arrived
We were in Heaven
Everything pleasant
People just living their essence
I was calm in the Divine Presence
I met a man
And told me how his views had changed
Grassroots was once lame
But now he and the people here are the same
Didn’t really know that until he came
Found out who he was
That’s what Grassroots is
Not about drugs
It is about being you
And loving what you do
Who you are
Listen to zydeco music under the stars
People who are committed to sleep in their cars
Some people set their calendars to Grassroots
I probably should
Make sure my life stays all good
Meet you there I would
And go or not this year
My spirit will be there
At Grassroots
Because this is where I met my spirit
I guess I should of known it
When he said his name was whatever it was
And I gave that name
To a creation of mine on the page
Said the same things
I would of said
Gave me a gift
As if my mind were read
I’ll see you at Grassroots
Even though I skipped it this year
I’ll see some people I know
We will talk about the show
Won’t say I didn’t go
We’ll laugh
Man, it was great to see you there
I was chillen with my mares
I swore it was you
I know
I knew
That’s Grassroots for you
