A night in Cambridge
Walking through Central Square
There was summer in the air
But it was still spring
A few weeks left
Maybe we should have a fling?
Or just take a drive and sing
Instead
We just talked about things
I snapped pics for the Gram
And we brushed hands
The buildings across the Charles were on both sides of the horizon
In the sky
And reflecting off that muddy water
I got high
And started pontificating
About everything and nothing
But before that got old
My mind took a hold
And I put Sunday Night Slow Jams on
And held the phone in my hand
Didn’t know where we where
And didn’t care either
I let you be the decider
Slow jamming and walking
Eating ice cream and talking
Picture taking
Romance faking
This Sunday we did not slow jam and chill
Not slow jam and thrill
We slow jammed and walked
I held R Dub in my hand
Kept talking about the gram
And saying “I don’t understand”
This world we live in
Pointing fingers and never forgiving
Should listen to slow jams in a foreign city
Walk the streets
Dressed up and looking pretty
If more people lived like that
Maybe I would understand
And instead of just having R Dub in my hand
I’d have my other hand with yours
We would pretend
Our love would never end
Every Friday night we would mend
We’d set an example of what others should do
Get your boo
Put on Sunday Night Slow Jams
Hold hands
Make love
And spread compassion
And at the end of the night
Share some passion
But love like slow jams
Comes to an end
But slow jams like love
Is about to begin again
Next Sunday night
I’ll be there
Listening at home
And if you are
Or if you’re not
My love for you will still be hot
As it was last week
When we walked the streets
And slow jams was the beat
Like those years ago
When we did first meet
Because love like the universe
Is everything eternity
And unique
