A Little City

Walking around town
I see lots of things
Pretty birds
With pretty wings
I see paintings on the wall
The city calls graffiti
Looks like art to me
I guess I see things differently
I see kids playing
Acting crazy
I see parents that are tired
They need a babysitter maybe
Probably can’t afford that though
Cause it costs a lot of dough
And in America
The boss is the only one whose pockets grow
The rest of us
Dress up for show
Even though we bought everything at Five Below
On the grind
Round and round we go
Even when we know
Enjoying life is simple
Take a walk
Meet a friend and talk
Shop
But not till you drop
Just for a few special things
For you a ring
That one you were so happy to get
In that special dream
I am going to chill and take in the scene
Keep walking around this little city
Do I look lonely?
Do not pity
I know all things in this vicinity
A member of the Holy Trinity
A master of infinity
Though I still wait for the Lord to deliver me
So that I may see eternity
Just another time
I promise to go back
When the trip is through
I promise Lord to do what you tell me to do
But I keep asking the same question
Still want to learn the lesson
Still feel I owe someone a confession
I guess that’s my bad
I am the one who makes me feel sad
Perhaps you’re not the best I ever had
Maybe I should be glad
And not secretly mad
Instead just patrol the city
Singing in my head
Writing a little ditty
All the girls
All so pretty
Wondering why I am here
Really?
No need to think too much
I guess I just have good luck
To live in this world
That does not suck
It’s a blessing
Why do we do so much guessing
Constant questioning
When life’s simplicity is all that is worth mentioning
