One

Time goes by
Here I am
Always that guy
Hey
I see you everywhere
Are you from here?
Of course
You too?
No
But who knew
I mean you live here?
Drink all the beer
Leave a mess
Like a bad house guest
You must be from here
You act like it
That’s clear
What does it mean to be home?
Or you are from the place others came and went
Is it my job to know what is meant?
Or to treat those who came to my home
That it is theirs too
Please take that offer seriously
Now I see
To live differently
We need to have a larger view of community
No more dividing
Or putting us on sides
No more fights
And silly rivalries
Retire the horses from the cavalry
Send all the soldiers home from the infantry
Cut the bonds of wage slavery
Stop encouraging police savagery
No more encouraging cosmetic surgery
Say so
When our elected leaders commit purgery
No one person can do this
We are all members
Please do remember
And we all have a role to play
Not someday
Everyday
Clearly God made it this way
If you’re here
Be here
And be a part of all that is near
Wave and smile
At everyone
Cause those are your friends, neighbors, loved ones
No need to wait for your invitation
We’ve already begun
On our road
To becoming one
