Open Your Heart

Open your heart
Here is where we must start
Because on the news
It is the same story
It is always bloody and it is still gory
And the same people preaching about war’s glory
But I see suffering
Thousands stranded and homeless
Due to war and violence
Those who can help
Silent
And not acting
Just debating
While the war is protracting
It is not hard to want to help your fellow man
For I see the pain in their faces
Ravaged and destroyed are their places
New homes await
In new lands
Why is the UN not making plans?
How much longer until we understand?
War, violence and hatred have brought this
But it is easy for our thoughts to shift
When we open our hearts
Call these refugees brother and sister
And understand their plight
They are the victims of their leader’s fight
No longer should we just watch the news and judge
Just shake out heads and allow our shoulders to shrug
Because we all can do something
We can all be part of what takes away their heart sting
Be human
That means be compassionate
Be sensitive
And be caring
We can decide peace is the only answer
And that war is the worst form of cancer
A human being is a much better dancer
Than a solider
And far better when they are a romancer
We can all write a poem
Or a simple love note
Then hatred is not even a joke
It becomes a distant memory
And fades from view
And this conflict we all see through
See it for its worthless nature
Not even worth putting it on paper
Why do we not invite these displaced people over?
There are plenty of places to live
And plenty of work to do
If we opened our hearts we could easily see that plan through
Know the work we were doing was true
Make sure the sky was the only thing on the earth that was blue
Only one thing left to do
Open our hearts
Then we can start
