My White Mare

Went for a horse ride this morning
There were four of us
Three mares and a pony
All different colors
Mine white
Along the road I am sure we were a sight
Definitely not a fright
Nor looking for a fight
But it was in the field
When we all felt alive
Fully enjoyed the spring sunshine
I was wearing my watch
But had no care for the time
Just me and my mare
My girl who I’ve always loved
On her back
The way we look above
Only there
She is not a mare
A mighty stallion
With mighty wings
And I am not me
A more luminous being
A fearless warrior of light
A hero returned from the fight
Ready to retire
Start a whole new life
One when my baby is not a mare
And I no longer have nightmares
It is just us
As I remember us
Young and in love
On the lakeshore
The beginning of so much more
A life where I am always at home
Waiting for her to walk through that door
Tired from a long day of work
But when we see each other we just start to flirt
Our love born all a new
Every time I look at you
In the meantime
I’ll just ride my white mare
Know it rhymes with her name
And know I still feel the same
Our loves form is the only thing that will change
All else
Is just a game
