Nothing is forever

A day only has 24 hours
There is only that day while it lasts
There is only a moment, a glimmer than it passes
Words only exist while they are spoken

A tree will not live forever
Its physical existence has a limited lifespan
It will grow, change, wilt and die
Each year it will loose leaves, grow them back
Grow new branches, loose others

We are not forever
Our happiness lasts a moment
Your smile, your kind words, warm my heart
You cannot be possessed
I am not a prize
Together we can be more, but it won’t last forever

We may love each other a week, a year, a lifetime
Our time will end, whether we choose or not
What we shared, who we became will last
In our next life we may meet again
In your eyes I will know your heart
I will know our connection
Once it may have been brief or long
Our love will last forever

The sun will go out
The earth may disappear
Life may go extinct
There will be a new sun
There will be a new earth
There will be new life
All things come from all things

All is eternal

Please take a piece of my heart when you go
I gave you a piece of mine
The first time I saw your light shine
I was offering a piece
No desire to be brief
But wanted to get all the way beneath
Well underneath the top layer
The part that’s unique
That’s the part I’m trying to show
Through an open heart is how it does flow

A girl taught me this lesson years ago
She offered me a piece
I didn’t even know
Year after year I would not let go
I cherished that piece
Thought it was the only one
Even when time took us apart
There was only her piece in my heart
Couldn’t see I needed to give
More pieces of my own
Not because it was wrong
Or I needed to atone
But, I needed to unlock my love
The lesson from above
Even though our time together is ending
I am being honest
Not pretending
Please take this piece
Like it or not I took part of yours
These are things you can’t find in stores
Please don’t be mad
Please don’t be upset
Believe it or not I’m glad we met
We’ve helped each other
Neither one of us set
So let’s exchange parts

Way back at the beginning, the very start

The climb may have been slow or fast

Depends on the approach you took

Regardless, the distance doesn’t change

Everything’s clock synchronized

True self’s pace always the same

Returns just like the first time they came

I looked down one path

It was open and clear

Plenty of peddlers wanting to take me near

The path was downhill

And lead to a city

Glitzy and glammy all dressed up and pretty

Lots of people were there

And plenty to do

The first pitchman asked: “Don’t you want to be there too?”

I guess but why?

What about the other path, ought I give that a try?

I looked down the other path

It disappeared around the bend

“Oh don’t go there it will surely be your end”

The pitchman pitched when he saw me turn my head

There was a light that came from a place in the distance

Down the second path it did glisten

“But...” I began in protest to the pitchman

As I opened my mouth he lifted his hand

“I see you like light, we’ve got plenty of that down there”

Again pointing to the city

Down the path that was fair

The city gleamed with light

Beautiful colors, blazing top to floor

All the people shiny and light

But still not as bright

I looked back down the other path again

Watched it disappear around the bend

Compared the two lights

Looked left, looked right

I saw which one was truly bright

Started down the path around the bend

The pitchman tried to warn me again

I just waved back, thanks my friend...

Luminous Beings

That’s not what we’ve been told

Grow mold

I met a girl
She confirmed it for me
She’s beautiful and bright
Golden shinning light
The words she spoke
That came from here beautiful mind

I knew she could do it

When we talked she said what I wanted to hear
It was quite clear

I had a teacher
He showed me how

He showed me books

I asked how long it took to learn what he knew
He made it clear when he said:
I’m not nearly done
So many things to put in this head
I’m always learning

Always looking
To learn and grow all I can
Because I know that will make me a better man
It was then that I heard it again

I have a sensei
She helps me grow
Teaches me things to know
Not about this outside world
What’s within
How to listen

Be comfortable with who you are
Know you’re a star
Just like everybody else
A being of light
Limitless self
It takes much practice she said
Take time to meditate
Unclog your head
We studied together in a Dojo
Month after month we practiced
At the breakfast table we discussed what we had learned
I listened to what she said
And said the same when it was my turn

I asked God if what I heard was true
It was no surprise when I heard God reply

Just keep telling yourself what I told you
