Slow Jammin' in Cambridge

A night in Cambridge

Walking through Central Square

There was summer in the air

But it was still spring

A few weeks left

Maybe we should have a fling?

Or just take a drive and sing

Instead

We just talked about things

I snapped pics for the Gram

And we brushed hands

The buildings across the Charles were on both sides of the horizon

In the sky

And reflecting off that muddy water

I got high

And started pontificating

About everything and nothing

But before that got old

My mind took a hold

And I put Sunday Night Slow Jams on

And held the phone in my hand

Didn’t know where we where

And didn’t care either

I let you be the decider

Slow jamming and walking

Eating ice cream and talking

Picture taking

Romance faking

This Sunday we did not slow jam and chill

Not slow jam and thrill

We slow jammed and walked

I held R Dub in my hand

Kept talking about the gram

And saying “I don’t understand”

This world we live in

Pointing fingers and never forgiving

Should listen to slow jams in a foreign city

Walk the streets

Dressed up and looking pretty

If more people lived like that

Maybe I would understand

And instead of just having R Dub in my hand

I’d have my other hand with yours

We would pretend

Our love would never end

Every Friday night we would mend

We’d set an example of what others should do

Get your boo

Put on Sunday Night Slow Jams

Hold hands

Make love

And spread compassion

And at the end of the night

Share some passion

But love like slow jams

Comes to an end

But slow jams like love

Is about to begin again

Next Sunday night

I’ll be there

Listening at home

And if you are

Or if you’re not

My love for you will still be hot

As it was last week

When we walked the streets

And slow jams was the beat

Like those years ago

When we did first meet

Because love like the universe

Is everything eternity

And unique

Don't Mask Your Heart

Don’t mask your heart

I saw that written

As street art

Scrawled on an electric box

A simple message

And I agreed

Divine insight

Noble indeed

I’ve got the mask for my face on the seat next to me

And A heart without a mask

But I see greed

Not empathy

I see fear

Not faith

But as the sign said

I won’t mask my heart

Instead I pray to the Lord

Please God be a part of my life

Not apart from my life

So please Lord hold us

As we unmask our hearts

And now clearly see the ugly parts

Help us remind

The best parts

The light

Your part Lord

Radiant and bright

It is true though

When we don’t mask our hearts

We can see all the parts

Dark and Light

Day and Night

So since we can see it all now

Let’s shine our light for each other

Reflect the Divine in one another

Namaste

How we now great each other

On this new day.

A Dark Night

In a time of rising despair
Dark clouds in the air
Venom and toxins spewing everywhere
It is now
We must turn to the light
Live as one
Unite
Not divide
Not cut ourselves out into tribes
For one to survive
The other must die
Oh why
Oh why
Have we not already given this life a try?
A fight to the death
To see who is the best
Always focused on conquest
Lord,
How can this be?
You said we were blessed
Did I hear wrong?
I guess
In my doubt
God did impress
Shone a light on those who have less
Made our choices clear
Either to abide in Love
As the Lord commands from above
Or take our chance
As the Devil moves in and asks us to dance
It is our choice
It is our right
Whether we give in to the darkness
Or fly towards the light
Even now
As we seem to be in this dark night
There is a light
It is you
And I ask you not to fight
But shine on
And be bright
Encourage and show others
The light in them too
Spread love
This is how we do
And how we make the world brand new

Then They Came For Me COVID-19

First they came for those with COVID-19, and I did not speak out—because I did not have COVID-19.

Then they came for those that would not wear masks, and I did not speak out— because I wore a mask.

Then they came for those who did not believe the government, and I did not speak out—because I believed the government.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

2020

Say goodbye to the old
And ring in the New Year
2020 is here
With all it will offer
With hope
Newness
And a fresh start
Let’s all open our hearts
Somehow we always forget this part
Even when the New Year starts
When the clock reads all zeros
And the decade is brand new
Somehow we still do
Play the same old songs
And get mad at all the same wrongs
Not even thinking to take our chance
To break the chain
Take a stance
In 2020
I will be brand new
I will be in charge of what I do
What I know
And how much I will grow
You can do it too
Just take this chance
The good Lord is offering you
A New Year
A New Start
A chance to open your heart
To begin again
To be your very own best friend
To no longer care it will end
Or when you can begin
Today
2020 is here
Make some way
It comes for you
And promises
To make your dreams come true

The Soaring 2020's

Greetings
And good tidings to all
A New Year’s ball
10 around the corner
A fresh start
And a new beginning
But first
The last ending
Of this decade
We trade in our teens
For twenties
Friends a many
With good times a plenty
Dazzling
Glitzy
Of course still gritty
Cause although the calendar moves along
We can’t remember the ones who are gone
Who no longer come around
Or who now reside in the ground
The ones who don’t make a sound
We go on carelessly without them
Because their case is their sin
At least
That’s what we believe within
What if we brought them with us too?
Changed their world from blue
Cared a lot less what all of us “do”
This time our twenties won’t roar
They’ll soar
For when we take care of each other
We do the Lord’s work
Stop being human
Again be angels
We’ll fly to the future
Be more beautiful creatures
Our love will be our greatest feature.

Christmas Psalm 2019

If matter cannot be destroyed
And light is its vessel
That travels the universe
Let me take just one moment
To share my verse
My three strings
For the Lord’s symphony
My part
Written just for me
But performed for thee
Dressed in love and empathy
Our time spent compassionately
And since we are of the light
Not crude matter
But luminous beings
Destined to last eternity
For that was our creation
Our Divine Manifestation
From the beginning
That will ride to the ending
But Avalon, Nirvana, Heaven or Shambhala is no ending
Just a brand new beginning
For us to take form
Our hearts to take flight
Our souls to unite
Do the Lord’s work
Give Them the dark
And shine Your light
Bright baby
As bright as you can
Doesn’t matter if we never understand
Just know this life here
Was meant for you
Your only goal
Is your part
The instructions written on the inside of your heart
The lessons from your soul
The stories of ancestors not yet told
Behold!
An Angel of the Lord
They declare this has all been foretold
