Great Big Ocean
Set a drift
Out on the open sea
Everything else gone
Just me
No company
No one with me
Just living independently
Sure
I am lonely
And yes
I do want someone to hold me
But
When that happens I still feel empty
Feel no closer to another human being
Whether they want it
Or even if I do
There is this distance between us
Even between you
It’s sad
But it’s true
I told you I love you
Still can’t turn it over to you
I still push back
When you try and get close
Your advances
Feel like an attack
Like I am threatened
And myself invaded
Which is why
I set out on the great big ocean
Cause out here
I live through my own notions
Maybe I can finally get to know my own emotions
Stop wondering why I can’t understand
Why when I reach for your hand
It’s not there
Or when I search the crowd for you eyes to stare
They are not there
So I gave up on us as a pair
Now all I smell is salt in the air
Memories wrapped up in my hair
But that is all I have

A few weeks ago
I had this thought
About the gifts I had bought
But this one would be brought
Or sent in the mail
I thought about you the night I spent in jail
On the floor of a cell
Learning all about hell
Where the Devil did dwell
Still can’t tell
But I will say this
I do love to give you gifts
And when you ask I say as you wish
But this year I had a special one in mind
Not a jersey for your birthday
Or something for Christmas
I did something
And told others how I feel about you
I hoped our love would endure
Or perhaps resume
Because I have always loved you
From the day we met
Said hello as we both slept
And I always feel you
So I do not want our love to begin
Now I want it to never end
Forever I will love you
Do understand
Cause that night
I also heard God’s plan
Spectacular and grand

Vowed to serve

Dear Dairy
I heard you like me
But I don’t know you
Which means
You don’t know me
I know what it is
You must have heard of me
Perhaps something I made you did see
And what you really feel is envy
Now I put it simply
All you like
That you think is me
You can do
Actually very easily
Because you don’t really know me
What’s my favorite color?
And when is my birthday?
What are my interests?
How do you know I am different?
Have you seen me let my hair down?
Do you know how I act when no one else is around?
Have you asked to know my thoughts?
Do you know I don’t care what you bought
What about books I’ve read
Probably wouldn’t guess if I don’t even care what’s in my head
I see you laughing when I make jokes
But when do I laugh?
Cause that is what I like the most
I know that I know lots of people
That’s helpful for you
I get it
But I don’t care about that too
Now I deliver you a book of my secrets
Perhaps you think that is the key
For you to know me
Maybe?
But those are all old stories
Glorified retellings of my own history
Actually the book is really a mystery
Because although I tell the stories of the past
I will answer no questions about why it didn’t last
Those characters just members of the cast
And I do have others on the staff
It’s all good
Everyone fails my class
Even the ones who think they can pass
Only looking at me from their perspective
Believing the surface is how we stay connected
We all benefit from a little reflecting
And self discovery
So don’t worry if you know me
Do you?
Until you do it perfectly
But I don’t know you
Which means
You don’t know me

I am going to live that way
I am going to live it every single day
No matter what the television news say
Or the orange painted president tweets today
Cause the news and he only care about money
Should be obvious
Cause what they do ain’t funny
Convince you to live in fear
Everyday the ending gets near
Facts exaggerated
More and more information fabricated
All in the name of the bottom line
Totally forget to listen to what is on the inside
Have no idea what it means to be alive
Eyes only filled with dollar signs
Yet we still get to decide
Everyday
Which way will be the way
What we do each day
How we treat each other today
And everyday
Since I have a say
I will decide which way
I will live
For me
Or for everybody
The only time I want to act naughty
Is when it is just you and I
An we close the door behind
Now then
Is when
I will do whatever you ask
Then hold you tight in my grasp
Close our eyes
Let time pass
When we wake I know our love will last
Because that is how I choose to live
Accept I will sin
That in this game no one wins
Especially us
Because we all are being played
This is the last day
Because tomorrow starts fresh
