Summer Break

 

Another school year ends

Here we go again

Time to say bye to our friends

Pack our bags

Let summer begin

When we get home

All our old things will be there

Old clothes picture frames and class rings

We said bye to friends from school

And hi to our old ones as they arrive

Back to the beginning

Back where we all met

Love intact

But

Although time moves on

We go and change

We do not become estranged

The fire of our relationship still a flame

To each other

Ourselves we do not have to explain

We share hearts and minds

But as we return this time

Our changes start to shine

And questions arise

Will our love survive?

Have we grown apart

Or is there still room in our hearts

For each other

Even though we grow and learn to love others

What we shared before still makes us brothers

And there is enough love to go around

Enough for school and our hometown

Our love also grows

Along with us

So even though we may drift apart

We maintain trust

Which makes it easy to find comfort

With our life at school

Where we’re really cool

That’s a lot different from high school

But all these people love you too

Cause cool or not

They see what you’ve got

Seen your sensitive spots

What makes you hot

When they’ve gone too far and you say stop

Love exists in all shapes and sizes

Whether it’s your friends at school

Or the ones from your old friend’s pool

Each can love you in their way

Because we all love and receive

And it is love

If I could turn back time

I would not have to

Because where I live time is always new

If I wanted to

I could go back to 1982

Park at the hospital

Wait for two newborn babies to come out

Cause it might now be now

But through my eyes

When I see things

It’s not a surprise

I’ve been here before

And seen the show

Which lets me know

Whether now or then

When I see it, it’s again

I can go back to the year 2000

In a cap and gown

That spot is not even across town

Just minutes away

By foot

It’s not there I want to stay

I’m here today

Right here

No need to stray

When I want though

To 2010 I can go

Teleport

To the DIA airport

Just landed on my flight back home

And just came from home too

Back to the work I do

Brought what I took back with me

Just so I could relearn to see

So when it became 2015

I was ready for what awaited me

A lesson that still lives painfully

I guess I’m not trustworthy

And so is everybody

The world we live in is very ugly

And it does not value people like me

So I’ll just live on quietly

Doing my thing

Don’t care about wedding or championship rings

Portfolios or CV’s

I just care how someone treats me

And all fail to be

A person who can pass my test

Because it is always about the past

Or the things they are

None of which I care for

And just one person is always a bore

Besides never heard anyone say no to more

And here’s the score

We all lost

Cause all we care about are the costs

And who’s the boss
